Britain will quietly raise a glass to a much loved monarch today, one who has been steadfast throughout her reign, has been a considerable conciliator, putting aside the differences and horrors of the past, to help create a better understanding between previously warring nations – Germany, Japan, Ireland.
She has given us a quite extraordinary example of stability by her years of constant service to this land. She has done this without descending to jibes and sound bites. It has all been done quietly and subtly.
There are many countries in the world that would give a great deal to have a Head of State like ours.
