The Queen's Walkway opened by Her Majesty on her 90th Birthday.

April 22, 2016

The Queen opened The Queen’s Walkway in Windsor yesterday.  The Outdoor Trust was supremely honoured to be included in the special walkabout in Windsor, a formal moment of ceremony in the middle of two days of celebrations for her 90th birthday.

The opening of The Queen’s Walkway completed the 6.37km route round Windsor, originally put in to mark when The Queen outreigned Queen Victoria.

The Queen and Prince Philip viewed the new panoramic panel, the only missing part of the jigsaw.  Windsor now has 63 discs, an app, a leaflet, a panel, and a royal opening.

The Outdoor Trust was very happy to be joined by the Lord Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire, the High Sheriff, the Constable and Governor of Windsor Castle, the Governor of the Military Knights of Windsor, and many distinguished guests including Lord Marland, Sir Claude Hankes, the Dowager Duchess of Marlborough, Dr Vijay Krishnarayan (Director of the Commonwealth Foundation) and others.

Hugo Vickers, Trust Chairman said “This was a very happy day and marks a new phase in the Trust’s activities, which will now seek to complete the programme of Commonwealth Walkways across the globe”.

Special thanks to Ian Longthorn, Matthew Philips and Nicola Hine from the Windsor Express as well as our guest from Ghana, Hannah Gates, for so generously sharing your photographs of the day with us.
